Costa Rica: Human trafficking volunteer trip

Costa Rica is full of beautiful landscapes and endless beaches, yet it also has a dark side: human trafficking. In spring 25, I was selected for Team Costa Rica, where I explored the travesty of human trafficking and the lives that have been affected by this heartbreaking issue. By working with several ministries and safe houses, I heard victims’ stories and how they have re-established their lives with the power of hope. This trip was deeply transformational, humbling, and forever changed the way I view tourism, immigration, and prostitution

ESSO has allowed me to fully immerse myself in my high school’s surrounding community and continue giving back!

ESSO TENNIS

  • Led weekly tennis practices for kids ages 5-13. Designed personal drills and match play. Focused on skill-building and mentorship.

  • ESSO Club is dedicated to spreading the mission of the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund

  • In the winter, I helped raise $500+ for our Valentine’s fundraiser!

  • I headed to the local preschool and kindergarten in Exeter; I watched children ages 3-6 for an hour once a week.

I also would volunteer at the local elementary school when able!

Sophomore year

70+ HOURS

Once a week, I made about 20-30 bagged lunches for the unhoused in Denver. I continued this throughout the rest of the school year!

Community service played a big role this past summer, from serving at the Ronald McDonald Houses and playing with the pets at the local shelters.

I love volunteering for school events! One of these events was the “All Stars Prom,” a dance held for people with disabilities. I helped organize the party and ran multiple food and carnival stands!

Volunteering at my mother’s church gives me opportunities to help during festivals, speaking events, and holidays.
